The Competition Tribunal confirms a consent agreement on procurement of school uniforms

Author: Author: Phuti MashalaneSenior Associate

The Competition Tribunal has confirmed as an order a consent agreement with McCullagh and Bothwell (Hyde Park) (Pty) Ltd, a Gauteng-based school uniform supplier.

This is the result of investigations by the Competition Commission following complaints received from parents over the years. The complaints were centred around the fact that they were forced to buy school uniforms from exclusive, selected suppliers.

This consent order will in essence terminate all exclusive supply agreements on the procurement of school uniforms. It will also guarantee parents and learners the opportunity to shop around for competitive prices for school uniforms and other affected learning materials.
